The fear of starting something new

It all started a few weeks ago:

It’s Monday at noon, and I’m looking at my to-do list.

There’s a task that’s been there for two months, and like every day, I’m looking at it: <<write a post for Medium>>.

When you read the same task every day and then obviously switch to another task, you eventually start to feel bad.

So, with this feeling of disappointment, I started writing some questions down on paper and started an internal chat with myself.

What’s stopping me? Do I want to write on the platform? Is there any kind of knowledge I’m missing right now? What’s the worst that can happen if I start writing, and what’s the worst if I don’t?

After my profound dialogue, I had an answer: I can’t control what people might think, and I can’t learn everything overnight.

During these two or three months, I spent my free time reading many posts on Medium about “how to start,” “how to make money,” “how to overcome fear,” “how to become a great writer,” etc.

I was only learning but not writing anything, so I was stuck in the same step. After my intern dialogue, I decided to be brave and start posting while learning.

Some wise people say practice is the best way to learn something.

It’s Monday afternoon, and after my self-reflection, I decided to jump in and start writing this post.

I sat on the floor beside my dog; I needed my buddy’s positive vibes.

And I wrote everything on a block of paper. I wanted to spend some time without any electronic device so I wouldn’t be distracted.

It’s kind of therapeutic to write by hand sometimes, with only my thoughts, the pen, the paper, and my dog (who is looking at me and questioning what I’m doing on the floor).

If you have the same problem as me and are afraid of starting something new, I hope my post encourages you and shows you that you’re not alone.

Are you avoiding something that you want to create? Do you want to share what you are struggling with? Maybe with some kind words from others, you can start your journey like me and be brave.

Enjoy your day!
